Illusive A1 BER Rating awarded to leading Irish developer - Wexford Low Energy Homes - at their Old Forge Road site in Enniscorthy
There were celebrations in Wexford this week as Dan Morrissey and his team at Wexford Low Energy Homes received news that one of their homes, built to the developer’s own standard specifications, with the addition of just 6 PV Solar Panels, achieved the highest grade, A1 BER rating, in assessment.
“As our name suggests, energy efficiency is at the heart of our business. We strive to achieve the top standards, while always being aware of the end cost of our homes for our customers. The specifications we set out for our homes as standard, are really anything but standard” Dan Morrissey commented at the announcement. “We knew our homes were efficient, but to have received an A1 Rating on a recently assessed home, with only the addition of some PV panels, we really are over the moon”
Just 5% of homes in Ireland have a BER A rating – the A rating is split into 3 levels – A3, A2 and the very highest level, A1. In fact, from SEAI’s most recent published figures only 0.02% of homes in this country have achieved an A1 BER Rating.
Wexford Low Energy homes are currently constructing homes in three developments in county Wexford; Old Forge Road in Enniscorthy, Ard Uisce in Wexford town and Gleann and Ghairdin in Gorey. All the houses are built to the same energy efficient specifications, including PV Solar Panels, Grant A+++ Air-to- Water Heating Systems, Highest Quality Windows and Doors, Exceptional Insulation, Excellent Air Tightness coupled with Demand Controlled Ventilation.
The homes currently on the market in all three locations, ranging from 2-bed apartments to 4-bed semi-detached homes, are generally sold with an A2 BER rating but all are available with an option to upgrade with extra PV solar panels, to bring them to an A1 BER Rating.
Mr Morrissey added, “We are very proud of this achievement, and to not just provide much needed homes in County Wexford, but homes that will be energy efficient and kinder to the residents’ pockets in these difficult times”
